Easy Angel Food Cake Topping: Strawberry Glaze Recipe
Equipment
- Saucepan
- Immersion Blender
Ingredients
- 1 pound strawberries sliced
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 ½ teaspoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
For thickening the sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
Make Strawberry Sauce
- In a large saucepan over high heat, add strawberries, water, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir to mix and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until the strawberries become soft.
- Remove from heat and blend the strawberries gently (I used an immersion blender.)
- Strain the mixture through a strainer.
- Then pour the liquid back to the saucepan on low heat.
Thicken the Sauce
- In a small bowl, mix together cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water.
- Pour the cornstarch slurry into the simmering strawberry sauce. Stir constantly.
- Increase the heat to high, keep whisking for about 5 minutes or until it thickens into a glaze.
- Remove from heat, and pour it into a bowl or container to cool down.
- Once it comes down to room temperature, store it in the refrigerator. Serve it as a topping for cheesecake, donuts, and pie, etc.
Notes
- Add sugar gradually until you reach desired sweetness.
- Note that the sauce will become thicker once cooled.
- If you prefer to have a brighter color, you can add red food coloring to your sauce.
