Ingredients
3/4cupflour
3/4cupcornmeal
1tablespoonsugar
1 1/2teaspoonsbaking powder
1teaspoongarlic powder
1/2teaspoonpaprika
2teaspoonssalt
1/4teaspoonpepper
1large egg
1cupbuttermilk
4tablespoonscold buttercut into small cubes
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
Preheat 2 inches of oil in a large skillet to 365°F. In a medium-sized mixing bowl add the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and pepper. Add the egg and buttermilk and stir until combined. Stir in the cubed butter.
Drop the batter by rounded teaspoonfuls in the hot oil. Let cook for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove with a metal strainer and place on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve with tartar sauce if desired.
