What is Tai Chien Chicken?

Tai Chien Chicken is a Szechuan-style stir fry. It’s made with boneless chicken thighs, bell peppers, celery, chicken broth, minced ginger, hot sauce, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and salt and pepper. It’s typically served over steamed white rice. 

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • chicken thighs
  • vegetable oil
  • red bell peppers
  • chicken broth
  • cornstarch
  • soy sauce
  • hoisin sauce
  • minced ginger
  • hot sauce
  • salt and pepper

How to Make Tai Chien Chicken

  • Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized one-inch pieces. 
  • Heat the oil in a wok and carefully add the chicken. Stir fry for 5-8 minutes until the chicken is cooked through. Remove from the wok and set aside.
  • Add red bell peppers to the wok and cook for about 5 minutes.
  • In a small bowl whisk together the chicken broth, cornstarch, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and ginger. 
  • Add the chicken to the wok and then add the sauce mixture. Continue to cook until everything is coated with the sauce. Serve over steamed rice and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • Cut the chicken into similar sizes so that it will cook evenly.
  • You can use other vegetables besides bell peppers. Celery, carrots, and mushrooms are great choices.
  • Add chili powder or hot sauce for some extra heat.

  • 1 lb chicken thighs boneless, skinless
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
