With plant-based diets becoming increasingly popular, Panda Express and fast food chains alike are eagerly jumping at the opportunity to add vegan options to their menus. With all of the meat, dairy and egg alternatives that are available, it’s becoming easier for restaurants to offer delectable vegan dishes.

Panda Express Vegan Options

Panda Express consistently works towards increasing its vegan options.

In February 2019, both Vegan Outreach and PETA influenced restaurants like Panda Express to take out chicken broth in the items that are classified as vegan/vegetarian.

Vegan Orange Chicken at Panda Express

In August of 2021, Panda Express introduced vegan orange chicken for a limited time. With much success, the fast food chain was able to expand this vegan option to 70 locations in 10 U.S. states. The best part? This new menu item is made with Beyond Meat’s plant-based protein, which gives it the title “Beyond the Original Orange Chicken” (also known as BTOOC).

Vegan Appetizers at Panda Express

Vegetable Spring Roll

The only vegan appetizer available at Panda Express is the vegetable spring roll. However, it can also be enjoyed as a main dish. The choice is yours!

Vegan Entrees

  • Eggplant Tofu
  • Vegan Beyond-Meat Orange Chicken
  • Vegetable Chow-Mein

Vegan Side Options

  • Steamed Brown Rice
  • Steamed White Rice
  • Vegetable Chow-Mein (not all locations)
  • Super-Greens

Vegan Sauces/Dips

  • Teriyaki Sauce
  • Plum Sauce
  • Sweet & Sour Sauce
  • Chili Sauce
  • Potsticker Sauce
  • Hot Mustard
  • Soy Sauce

The above sauces are not only delicious, but are vegan-friendly too! The top sauce recommendations are the plum sauce when looking to slightly enhance your dishes flavor or the chili sauce if you’re looking to spice up your rice or chow mein. The next two that top the list are Teriyaki or Sweet and sour sauce.

Vegan Dessert Options

  • Fortune Cookie
  • Sweet Tea’s/Drinks

Does Panda Express Use Chicken Broth in their Vegetarian/Vegan Items?

Definitely not! This is thanks to petitions from Vegan Outreach and Peta in February 2019. The result was removing chicken broth from vegetarian and vegan-friendly items.

Are the Noodles at Panda Express Vegan?

Yes they are! There is a bit of a catch though! Although the noodles at Panda Express are vegan, they do share a wok. The woks are wiped clean after each use, but it is a key thing to remember if you are a strict vegan.

Does the Chow Mein at Panda Express Contain Eggs?

No. There is nothing on the ingredients list that states that Chow Mein contains eggs.
