DIY Painted Vases from Jars

Last weekend, when I met Monika from Life With Lovebugs, she mentioned something about keeping spaghetti sauce jars & making crafts with them.  I also knew that Barbara from Chase The Star (who was also with us), had some really cool crafts on her site with mason jars.  I decided that I would try my hand at doing something crafty!

I gathered 3 spaghetti sauce jars and my yellow & white Krylon paint that I got in my swag bag at the SoCal Social. Now, here is where a disclaimer is needed.  I have never spray painted anything, EVER.  I read the back of the Krylon spray paint but was still nervous.  My first jar, the yellow one, had a LOT of drip marks.  Jar #2 was better and I finally got the hang of it by Jar #3.  With the last 2 jars, I read a little bit more online (plus texting Barbara “WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!?!”) and saw that I should use sandpaper on the jars to make the paint adhere better & that’s what helped, I believe.

Instead of scrapping the first 2, I remembered some owl ribbon I had bought at Michael’s but wasn’t sure where I would use it (it didn’t matter, it had owls…I HAD to have it!).  The owl ribbon covered up a lot of the ugly drips mark that I made.  I also had 3 felt owl stickers that I got on clearance for $1.29 at Michael’s.  I hot glue gunned the ribbon & the owls onto the jars.  Then, I just added some pretty flowers I picked up at Albertson’s and I really like how they turned out!  Now that I have a better understanding of how to use my spray paint, watch out!  I am already on the look out for another project 🙂

HOW CUTE! I still have leftover baby jars. I wonder if I could do the same with those?

Those are so cute! I always just throw away the spaghetti jars without even thinking about them. Won’t be so fast to throw them away this time.
