Growing up, I wasn’t able to get braces. I know that my parents would have gotten them for me if they could have but my dad was an Independent Contractor and medical and dental insurance wasn’t always something we could afford. My younger sister was able to get braces because her teeth were worse than mine and she needed them more than I did. But, I know that it was hard on my parents, not only paying for the braces but finding someone that would work with them to make monthly payments.

My 15 year old son has had braces for about 2 1/2 years. I thank the Lord that we have good insurance so we could get them for him (plus we have 2 more after him that will need braces too) but even with that insurance, braces are still VERY expensive! I’ve made it clear to him though that he needs to take care of them and keep them as clean as possible (do you all have teenage boys? Hygiene isn’t exactly their strong point!) because every little piece that breaks or he loses, we have to pay for.

One of the ways Jared has been keeping his teeth nice & clean with braces on is with flossing. I honestly didn’t know that it’s better to have special floss & flossers when you have braces on. Since I never had them, I just thought you floss & you’re done. We’ve bought some flossers that he hated, some he liked but were hard to find again in stores and some that just would NOT work (those are probably the ones I bought on my own when he wasn’t with me. Which is often. Not many 15 year old boys want to go with Mom to Target to buy floss!)

When I asked Jared if he’d be interested in getting a Waterpik Aquarius Professional Water Flosser, I could tell he wanted to hear more about it (That’s huge, people. I mean, I got his attention away from a video game, folks! You usually need the jaws of life for that!) I popped over to Waterpik’s site to show him what one of their Water Flosser’s looks like and what it would do differently than normal floss. I personally love that it is 50% more effective for improving your gum health over string floss, and it will remove 99.9% of plaque from treated areas in 3 seconds! Jared really liked the fact that the Waterpik Aquarius Professional Water Flosser is clinically proven to be up to 3x as effective for removing that awful plaque around braces vs. regular floss. He’s been really happy every time we go to the ortho and they praise him for how well he’s doing with keeping his braces & teeth clean.

This flosser isn’t just for people with braces either! It’s great for people with crowns, bridges, veneers & other dental work. I’m sure almost of all us would love to be able to remove plaque deep between our teeth & under our gumline where brushing & regular flossing just can’t reach. Nothing feels better than a clean, healthy mouth and a great big smile when you feel confident about your teeth!

The flosser comes with everything you need, too. There are 7 tips for all your dental needs (3 Classic Jet Tips, 1 Plaque Seeker® Tip, 1 Orthodontic Tip, 1 Pik Pocket™ Tip & 1 Toothbrush Tip). We love that there is a 1 minute timer so Jared knows how long to floss for, that the flosser holds 90 seconds worth of water so there are no refills needed in the middle of flossing and that there are 10 pressure settings for optimum control. Plus, there is an on/off switch right on the handle which makes it very easy for Jared to control where the water goes in his mouth and allows him to shut it off quickly for any reason.

When I had adult braces a few years ago (at 53!), I didn’t know about the WaterPik flosser – I wish I had, as it sounds as though it works much more easily than the floss threaders to work around the wires. Great info to pass along – thanks for posting.

As I sit here with an aching back tooth, I wish I’d had one of these for the last few years.
