Starting off the school year healthy with ECOlunchbox

When Sandra Harris, the Founder of ECOlunchbox, started packing lunches for her kid’s school lunches, she realized how much trash was being generated by all the baggies and plastic containers she sent the food in. When she tried finding something that fit the needs of her family, she had a really hard time so she decided to create her own. Sandra created a basic solution using traditional materials like stainless steel and cotton. There is no plastic, Vinyl, PVC or lead in any of the product (which seems like a no brainer right? But apparently that isn’t always the case for companies!)

We got to try the ECOlunchbox Solo Cube, an ECOnapkin & an ECOStainless Spork. The Solo Cube measures 5 1/4 inches square and 1 7/8 inches deep and is great for a sandwich, cheese & crackers, fruit or so many other things. The Solo Cube is also plastic-free, lead-free, BPA-free, phthalate-free and waste-free & is made of high-quality, food-grade stainless steel that won’t retain stains, odors or residue.

The ECOnapkins are sold in packs of 2 and come assorted, so every pack is a surprise! They are beautiful, measure 16×12 inches, can be used as placemats or napkins and you can machine wash them on cold and tumble dry them. The spork is great for kids 5 and older. What makes this cool is on one side is a spoon that you can use for yogurt or soup and the other side is a fork for picking up pasta or fruit. The spork measures 3 1/4 inches long overall and is constructed of high-quality 18/10 stainless steel. You can buy one spork or buy them in a set of 4, plus they are dishwasher safe, which is ALWAYS good in my book!

Some of my other favorite items that I plan on buying are the Furoshiki ECOknapsack (I think I like the Cranberry Olive Stripes pattern the best!). I also LOVE the ECOlunchtray and want to buy some for my kids to use at home. Not only do I think that these would be great for showing serving sizes of vegetables to the kids, it would also be great for the kids who don’t like their food touching or mixing (I feel your pain if you have a child like this, I have one too!)

I really love the quality of the items we reviewed and I feel good knowing that nothing harmful is going to be getting into my kids food. Plus, throwing less trash into the landfills is always a good thing!
