Living in California is expensive. There are so many great things about living here but the cost of living is NOT one of them. As a recently single Mom, I’ve been trying really hard to cut back on a lot of things, going out to eat a lot less and buying more groceries so we’re not tempted to eat out. The problem is that grocery stores are expensive here too! I’ve heard about other grocery stores in different states and was always bummed that they weren’t here in California. One of the stores that I hear a lot about was ALDI. People talk about the deals they get there & I always thought that I really needed one here in San Diego!
I was thrilled to hear about the newest ALDI opening up here in San Diego county. Just a couple days after their grand opening, I decided to check it out and see what made it different. I didn’t know what to expect and was glad to go in with a bunch of other people that was brand new to shopping there because we all looked a little confused at first! The great part about that was hearing people around you saying “Oh, wow! Look at the price of these cookies!” or the man that overheard my girlfriend talking about a $2.19 bottle of Winking Owl California Moscato (with a green owl on the bottle too!) and asking where he could get a bottle too!
If you’re like me, you’ll wonder what really makes ALDI different. First, each store only has about 5 aisles and 90% of the groceries that they carry are under their own ALDI-exclusive brands. These brands are regularly tested to make sure they taste good, if not better, than national brands. Because of this, you’re able to save up to 50% (based upon a price comparison of comparable products sold at leading national retail grocery stores) on your weekly grocery bill. Plus, you’re buying high-quality products AND saving money! All of the groceries you see in these pictures, I got for $98 total!
ALDI has a line of products called SimplyNature®, which includes USDA Certified organic and Non-GMO verified items, liveGfree® gluten-free products, USDA Choice meats and NeverAny! products that are free from added antibiotics, hormones and animal by-products.
We have 25 ALDI stores here in Southern CA. I love that! Knowing that I can buy healthier foods for my family, plus save money, is something that is going to help my family immensely!
