How to Plan an Awesome Baby Shower

It’s such joy to welcome a new baby to the world! If you’re fortunate enough to have a wee one to celebrate, you’ll likely want to host a baby shower for the mama-to-be. We specialize in parties for boys (and non-frilly girls) on my blog, Spaceships and Laser Beams; I see lots of parties and I have tons of ideas to help you plan yours!

Decide Your Baby Shower Theme

One of the first steps in planning a baby shower is deciding on a theme. It will give you a focal point to build all of the rest of the party details around. Childhood joys and books, interests of mom-to-be, even color ideas can be inspiration for a theme idea.

Create Your Baby Shower Decorations

After deciding on the theme, tie the menu, activities and favor choices in with your theme idea for a pleasing consistency. Then, you’ll want to start working on decorations. A Pinterest search will yield a number of free party printables such as medallions, banners, food tents and even invitations, so you might want to see if any of those potentials work with your theme choice. Many of the items can be used in ways other than what the name suggests. For example, you can use glue dots and ribbon or baker’s twine and medallions (frequently called party circles) to make party garlands or table confetti. You can also pair the medallions with decorative tape to create a themed plate/cup/serving utensil set. Or, you can attach the medallion to a straw and pop it into a cupcake for a decorative topper. A pair of straws can hold a mini-medallion banner to be used as a cake topper. String the medallions vertically to create a backdrop for your dessert table; intersperse the medallions with solid color ribbon streamers or lace. Once you start looking at potentials, your imagination is likely to create more decorative possibilities than you’ll need!

Planning a baby shower takes effort, but it can be lots of fun. You’re creating a lifelong memory for the new mama so get those creative juices flowing and enjoy the journey! If you’d like more specifics and visual inspiration, make sure to visit my blog!
